Wasn't Conference wonderful?! Conference is a lot like Elder Holland's talks it's always over too soon!
"Watch and Learn" These are a few gems that are totally apples!, from Elder Clayton's talk about what he has recognized in happy marriages.
"In the happiest marriages, both husband & wife consider their marriage to be a peal beyond price."
"Terrific marriages are respectful, transparent & loyal."
"Strengthening faith, strengthens marriage."
"Dinner hour & the family time that follows is the center of their day & the object of their best efforts. They turn off electronics & forego personal entertainment in order to help with household duties. To the extent possible they read to their children every night. Both participate in getting their kids to bed. They retire to bed together."
-Elder Whitney Clayton
The following are some apples from Elder Falabella's talk.
"In order to contend you need two people & I will never be one of them"
"I need you to hug me. I love you. Thank you very much & forgive me are like balm for the soul"
"Write love notes. Send text messages of love & gratitude." Follow the example of the Father and use kind and praising words..."This is my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased"
(-the words we use were referenced in several talks. it really is so important that we use kind words! We don't really want to scar anyone or make them feel inferior or unloved do we?!)
"Participating in a Celestial marriage is not enough, we must live a Celestial life."
-Elder Enrique R. Falabella
I so appreciated the love I felt from both of these Brethren for their wives. They hold them in the highest of regard. It was very sweet to see that. I watched these talks again tonight to get some apples from them. I need to do better at applying things that I felt impressed by during conference. The home is a great school, like Elder Falabella said. We can learn from what we do well and not so well and become better. -that's the plan, after all.
What were your favorite talks? Did you pick out any apples your spouse would appreciate?
